In October we released details about our brand new 2019 event – The Big Lakes Challenge. This unique triathlon event covers 3 days and includes canoeing, cycling and trekking in the beautiful Cumbrian countryside.

Triathlons are often seen as the most physically demanding and mentally taxing events. We’re here to tell you that these exciting multi-discipline events are not just for the professionals, but for everyone!  Combining three separate activities is an exhilarating experience for anyone looking to take on a personal challenge.

You don’t need to be an athlete to give it a go. All you need is a bit of self-belief and commitment. There are so many reasons why a triathlon is the perfect challenge for you, for him, for everyone. Here are just a few reasons why you should give a triathlon a try…

Variety – When we repeatedly train by doing the same exercise it takes a toll on certain parts of our bodies. Whether it be our joints or muscles. Training for three different events means you get to have a varied programme of exercise. You will and improve both strength, speed and stamina. Not to mention the fact that triathlons are exciting. Variety is the spice of life after all!

To surprise yourself – when you do a triathlon you’ll realise that you are actually much stronger and more resilient than you think.

It’s an adventure – triathlons cover a lot of ground. It allows you to spend extended amounts of time the great outdoors. Not to mention the fact that triathlons always involve some kind of water-based activity! Whether it’s swimming or canoeing, you’ll get to take part in something that might be out of your daily routine or comfort zone.

You’ll inspire people – Completing three separate challenges takes courage and determination. When you take part in a triathlon you will inspire the people around you. You might even propel them into improving their own fitness.

It’s great for your mind – Not only this but it can also have an overwhelmingly positive effect on your mental health. You’ll experience stress reduction and improved self-esteem. As well as the satisfaction that you are raising vital funds for a worthy cause.

The sense of achievement – Only a tiny fraction of the population has actually completed a triathlon! When you master three different disciplines you will feel an incredible sense of achievement and can proudly say you are part of the exclusive team triathlon.

Focus on your weaknesses as well as your strengths – When you train for three different activities you are bound to be better at one than another. You might not become the fastest or the best but with practice you will definitely improve on your weak points. For many, the challenge of a triathlon is not about a winning medal. It is about completing something which they have found a personal challenge.  Working on things that need improvement will help you to realise that you are much stronger think.
